I guess they could use this as prima facie evidence that their "Chinese Wall" was intact, and that the equity analyst was truly quarantined from the investment bank operation. Maybe they were in this one case, but it still doesn't mean there weren't egregious violations in many other instances. OTOH, the downgrade just hours AFTER they lost the IB deal smacks of pettiness and vindictiveness, legalities aside. Using Blodgett's "past bullishness as a selling point" will cause problems for them, IMO.
