Siebel Sees Up to 200 Information Companies Closing
By Alexis Xydias and David Scanlan

Madrid, April 10 (Bloomberg) -- Siebel Systems Inc. shares slumped after Chairman Thomas Siebel said he expects 100 to 200 information-technology companies to close this year.

Shares in the world's biggest maker of customer-service software fell as much as $2.78, or 10 percent, to $24.78.

Siebel said the first quarter this year may have been the ``worst in the history'' of the information-technology industry.

While larger companies in the industry may have already cut costs sufficiently, smaller companies may still have to cut jobs, Siebel told reporters at a lunch presentation in Madrid.

``We haven't picked up yet,'' Siebel said, referring to the industry as a whole. ``The contraction is not over.''

Siebel said the company has not changed its forecast of 15 percent revenue growth this year. He expects a recovery in demand in the third or fourth quarter this year. quote.bloomberg.com.
