That's a distinct possibility - and you may be right about the target price upgrades. I have not been able to find it, but I know the target prices on several of the semi-equip stocks were upgraded recently - I just can't remember if it was SSB.

On March 25 at 07:45 ET Solly raises price targets on semi equipment co's (OPENX) : Salomon Smith Barney raises price targets on the following semi equipment co's: AMAT to $75 from $48 (pre-split), KLAC to $78 from $58, LRCX to $40 from $31, MYK to $18 from $15, NVLS to $78 from $57, and TER to $45 from $35.

And today:

14:42 ET Solly Technical downgrades (OPENX) : Salomon Smith Barney technical downgrades: KLAC and AMAT (1 to 3); QLGC (3 to 4); SEBL (3 to 4).

On March 25 AMAT closed at 51.28. Today it closed at 51.01.

My rant was a little tongue in cheek but it clearly shows that analysts are playing games.

Smart money moves in its own direction. Personally I need to trade a bit smarter.
