Z, re: article on Israel & Lebanon

Thank you for posting the article. I have been reading some of the exchanges here but am not ready to enter the fray as my foreign affairs knowledge is a little rusty.

clarification on Khasars, even though that it does not make any difference:
I have already told Ted that Khazars were very possibly absorbed by Christians rather than East European Jews. It was based on my very very very vague recollection someone telling me that cossacks have Jewish origin. The statement was shocking since cossacks were famous not only for their military skills but also for been very anti-semitic.
I found the following link in Russian
cossackweb.com
which tells the story of cossacks for over 2,000 years. It is hard to track even for Russian speaking so I would not dare to translate :-)) It seems that the cossacks in their current form trace themselves to the 10th century when Khazars adopted Christianity.
It also turned out that I was wrong about duty been the reason for the war by Oleg. It was pure expansion. And I was also wrong about Oleg finishing it. Prince Yaroslav, grandson of Oleg, conquered Khazars in 10th century. Which goes well with Khazars adopting Christianity at that time.
So what it lead to is that Khazrs were converted to Jewdaism in 7th century but were reconverted into Christianity in 10th century.
