Even the Sony computer I'm using right now has both "Fire Wire/i.link" AND USB 1.0 so I assume later versions of the Sony VAIO will maintain their cross compatibility as USB 2.0 becomes ubiquitous.

I think Fry's Electronics was doing decent business in USB 2.0 add-in cards to support all the USB 2.0 external storage products that are on their shelves.
