"The Middle East violence began with
skirmishes after Israeli superhawk Ariel
Sharon visited the disputed holy site in old
Jerusalem, escalated with the gut-wrenching
televised death of a 12-year-old Palestinian
boy shot as his father tried to shelter him,
and then erupted when seething Palestinians
(whom Yasser Arafat seemed at first
unwilling and then unable to control)
murdered and mutilated two Israeli soldiers.
Prime Minister Ehud Barak ordered a military
retaliation, which halted his lonely reach, or
perhaps overreach, for a comprehensive
peace. "

TP, this episode was mentioned in today's NYTimes, I believe. I've copied your other references.
NOW, I have to read them. Thanks. Last week, while I was in New Orleans, I heard over and over
that when Bush told Sharon to get out of Israel, it was meant as a green light to go ahead with the
invasion of Palestine or as the tv networks put it, Bush told Sharon to get out but with a "nod and a
wink."

" that Bush, while in Paris, met with Hashemi Rafsanjani, the second in command to the Ayatollah and now the president of Iran, and Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian businessman who was extremely powerful. Arrangements were apparently made to pay Iran $40 million to delay the release of hostages in order to thwart President Jimmy Carter's re-election bid."

TP, evidently many people know about this incident although it may not be well known that the $40 million
may have come from the campaign to re-elect Nixon. The money donated to Nixon by Shaw of Iran.
Shame on Lee Hamilton for not looking seriously into the matter.

Although this information is new to me, there are people who tell me they are not surprised that the
Bushes, Reagan and their administrations would be involved.

If indeed, the Bushes are blackmailed by Israel, it would explain W's hypocritical position towards Palestine.
Tonight on tv I heard a man from Palestine tell us how the Israelis evicted 7 apartments and put the 32
tenants into one apartment that does not have any water or electricity. The Israel army took over the
other six apartments.

And tonight on the Jim Lehrer show, we saw a young boy who was shot by the Israel army when he went
out for groceries during a time when the curfew was lifted.

Last week, I heard the Israel army shot and killed a 14 year-old girl who also went out for food when the
curfew was lifted. It was reported several times last week on tv that the Israel army used Palestinian men
as human shields as they entered a Palestinian city.
