A high sales to price ratio, as you mention for QCOM, could certainly deter many investors from being too enthusiastic at even current prices. However, this does not justify shorting, inasmuch as one should NEVER short good management. The reason is that a skilled (and honest) management team invariably finds a way of dealing with adverse business conditions. You could certainly short AWE or its parent on the basis of management shortcomings, but not QCOM.
