Interfor was selling cedar logs to itself in the US and that was curtailed in a way that didn't make a lot of sense. I don't believe that anybody knows what the real value of a log is as the foundation product of a very large industry has yet to become a commodity for many of the reasons you site. The sooner a product is commodity priced the better for global trade and all consumers. Computer chips to wood chips to whatever in my view.
