09:52 ET Michigan Sentiment slips to 94.4 in April; weaker than expected : The University of Michigan consumer sentiment index fell to 94.4 in early April from 95.7 in March; this was below the 96.8 consensus, but still represents one of the better readings in recent months and retraces only part of the big 5 point gain in March.

the 1998 onward weakness in the a-d line gives us a good example that strength in the a-d line line now can be early also, by a couple of years from mid 2000

the strength is a good sign that the underlying fundamentals are strong

the devil is in the details

we could easily get the real 4 year cycle bottom later this year within the context of the 1998 - 2000 example
