Bush: Prior Knowledge of 9-11 Attacks?

[on Netscape, no less ... rather mainstream, ain't it? -- bia]

By Cathryn Conroy, Netscape News Editor
Accusing people close to the Bush
administration of being "poised to make
huge profits off America's new war,"
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) has
called for an investigation into whether
President Bush and other government
officials had advance knowledge of the
terrorist attacks on September 11--but
did nothing to stop them. According to
Washington Post reporter Juliet Eilperin,
the five-term congresswoman told a
Berkeley, California radio station: "We
know there were numerous warnings of
the events to come on September 11th.
What did this administration know and
when did it know it, about the events of
September 11th? Who else knew, and
why did they not warn the innocent
people of New York who were
needlessly murdered? What do they have
to hide?"

On Thursday, McKinney refused to be
interviewed by the Post, but issued this
statement: "I am not aware of any
evidence showing that President Bush or
members of his administration have
personally profited from the attacks of
9-11. A complete investigation might
reveal that to be the case." The Bush
administration dismissed the accusations
as "ludicrous, baseless views." Bush
spokesman Scott McLellan said, "The
fact that she questions the president's
legitimacy shows a partisan mind-set
beyond all reason." The supposed
profiteer is the Washington investment
firm, the Carlyle Group, which employs a
number of high-ranking former
government officials and partly owns a
military contractor. Carlyle Group
spokesman Chris Ullman asked the Post:
"Did she say these things while standing
on a grassy knoll in Roswell, New
Mexico?"

You don't think the hostage release timing at all coincidental?
