Telecom New Zealand Says CDMA Network Customers Still Increasing

WELLINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Telecom Corp. (NZT), New Zealand 's biggest telephone company, said Friday its code division multiple access, or CDMA (news - web sites), mobile telephone network is continuing to attract new customers.

Telecom, in a press release about extensions to CDMA's coverage, said the network has over 110,000 customers - the same description the company gave in mid February, possibly suggesting growth had slowed.

But separately, the company said the numbers have grown since the last update, adding it will publicly release updated figures quarterly rather than "dribble" them out intermittently.

"We decided we are going to announce the figures on a quarterly basis but you can rest assured the figure has gone beyond that (110,000)," spokeswoman Linda Sanders said.

The CDMA network was launched last August and by Dec. 31 had 100,000 customers. Another 10,000 customers were added by mid February.
