Zeev, I'm not as deep into the culture as you are but considering how close Israelis and Palestinians have come in the past of having an agreement (Jerusalem being one major sticking point), I would have given it to them just so to see if everything that is being said is true. After all, Israel has the military power to do as they please if the terms are not followed. Just give peace a chance damn it! Or maybe get everyone to watch Star Trek episodes in one room till they agree to peace and that we are all 99.999999% the same freaking people living in the same freaking planet. I've just had it with all this hatred of ethnic groups around the world.

And if Arafat is the problem, so is Sharon. I don't distinguish one bit of a difference between the two. Just 2 old farts living in the past thinking we all are going to hell in a hand basket by the other side. Let some young educated modern Israeli and modern Palestinian to talk peace and you'll have it by the end of the day. The new young generation wants hope and peace and a better future for themselves and their children. And it's only when they see no hope for it that things get a dramatic turn for the worse.

JMHO.
