I thought your "Third Way" status (which sounds mildly ominous, BTW) was very Rambi-like, in that you are extremely diplomatic.

BTW, I got all set up to take the body fat tolerance test, but decided that after I entered my weight, any "biased against heaviness" results I got would be self-hatred and that's just sooooo depressing.

Rambi, I got the "Third Way", also. It scared the dust out of me. I wasn't able to get a read-out on it, but I guess we can acept what Karen said. Anyway, I forget the author who said, "I was born with nothing; and I still have most of it"! But maybe that is what the Third Way means...

places me left of center

Yeah, that was my response. I was wondering where "center" was. Now to be honest, I didn't weight anything, which was an option. If I went back and answered these weighted, I wonder if I'd get something different?

Another observation was that many of these questions were binary propositions, forcing an unnatural, either-or selection process (like "should SS be saved." My response would be, how much would it cost and would the private sector use it as an opportunity to rip me off!)

Registering guns could be, for example, replaced with an effective point-of-sale identification system. I've argued (believe it or not) that a waiting period for someone who already owns guns (like me) does nothing to promote anyone's safety. That is a pretty rational proposition. However, I also agree that there are a lot of other people I don't want to have guns. The thing that promotes others safety (vis-a-vis, my gun ownership) is that a) I've owned guns my whole life, b) I'm not a violent criminal, c) I'm able to hold a job, d) I've never used guns in a threatening way.

I generally haven't found these surveys to be particularly insightful. Over on Solon's SGBR thread I took a religion selector. It had me in some weird category that sounded like I was wearing beads and hugging trees. I can tell you now that I've never worn beads while hugging trees. I hug trees naked like everyone should.

Hmmmmmmmm.......

My results page....
#1 Liberal
#2 Radical
#3 Third Way (????)
#4 Left-libertarian
*and on and on with conservative and paleoconservative bringing up the last two places.*

Hmmmmm. I suppose that I ought to stop self-identifying as a moderate and accept the truth. I mean really... it was a bit extreme of me to call myself a moderate while enjoying and agreeing with a good deal of the radical feminist philosophy and history that I've read. Or that fact that I also self-identify as "punk".. though without any of the macho posturing usually associated with the term.

Time to make some goulash. Laura and I have to make $50 stretch until our paychecks arrive on Wednesday. And track down a roomate for next year.. and start hunting for a summer job for me. And.... Ugh. I just want some food.

Take care,
-Tom
