I think the US should forever drop the issue of Secretary Powell to meeting with Arafat.

Recently someone posted, I think it was on this thread, a rhetorical comment relating to possible planned assassination of Secretary Powell. I think that is a very reasonable consideration.

If you will, consider Arafat as a pathetic washed-up liar that he is, who has who has repeatedly stated over the last month that he wants martyrdom. What better way for him to live in infamy than to kill the US envoy and precipitate WW III.

A similar situation arose back in the 1200 when Mohamed-I beheaded the Mongol emissary and more recently in Austria; both assassinations lead to world wars.

The risk to reward ratio is unfavorable. If the situation is understood, then Powell in Israel serves a useful tactical purpose of attention diversion.
