nspolar- I won't claim to know that much about telecoms. Or any other technology business for that matter. What I do know is that the best way to make big money in stocks (or RE, or cars or baseball cards) is to buy LOW and sell HIGH. Like any other market- the most common way to profits is to BUY wholesale, and SELL retail.

When a company like T is selling near a 16 year low- you have to think that the sector is selling at a discount (i.e. wholesale). That doesn't mean that today is the perfect time to buy them- my bottom picking crystal ball is broken <g>- but I have started to load some up, LU and SBC in particular. If they go lower, then I'll add more of the top companies in the sector.

They won't all go out of business- in fact I think it's highly unlikely that ANY of the major players go down the tubes. But there's a risk- not anything near the risk of a year or two ago- but a real risk nonetheless that the sector could continue to be out of favor for the near term. For the LT telecom investor- I think they are a BUY here. Returns over the next 12-18 months should be above average, IMO.

>the best time to usually buy is when they are hated the most. We getting close to that point?
Your guess is as good as mine on that. I think so, but it's your money, so you'll have to make that determination.

Best of Luck, and let us know how you attack them,
TW
