Correction: The actual number of poor did DECREASE during the Clinton years. By over 8Million, from 39M to 31M.

Agree with your premise Dave and your point is well taken. During the 90's the average income of the top 1 or 5% (cannot remember the percentage number) increased from approximately 450K to 920K, that in larger part accounts for the numbers maybe Gordon is using. However, fact of the matter is the standard of living for the poorest wage earners indeed increased during Clinton and that is better than it decreasing like it did during Reagan and Bush I. Bake the numbers however you wish but those are the facts.
