It's a refreshing overview away from the instant reporting that that seems to thrive on reporting body counts any and all tear-jerking accusations without the slightest attempt to confirm reliability.

Yes, I agree. The NY Times has been one of the offenders on this score. I don't object to covering the real civilian devastation, but to do so without even mentioning that there was a battle (even the BBC did not do this) is pure tear-jerking. I also object to nearly all Western reporters' habits of receiving IDF reports very skeptically, while repeating verbatim any and all Palestinian accusations with no attempt to confirm current reliability or factor in past unreliability. Naturally, all official Palestinian spokesmen have learned that it is perfectly safe for them to just make stuff up on the spot.

I will keep an eye out for Zeev Schiff's analysis.
