Once again, the main feature of market action is heavy distribution. Downside volume exploded higher on Thursday, outpacing advancing volume by more than 10-to-1. I hesitate to take that as predictive, but this persistent distribution is really not the kind of action you tend to see in sustained bull markets. Bull markets tend to generate strong volume on upside moves, while declines only briefly generate high volume. Indeed, the ebbing of downside volume on declines and new highs on large upside volume is typical of the sustained buying interest that characterizes bull markets. We don't see that here at all. For now, we remain fully hedged. When we are fully hedged, our performance is not particularly driven by market fluctuations, but instead by the difference in performance between the portfolio of stocks that we own, and the market indices we use to hedge.
