On January 2OO2, at 01:20 local time, two large helicopters flew over the city of Eilat, Israel, corridored between the Jordan mountains and the Egyptian borders.
They were heading strait south.
I watched them, very visible and slow, wondering where in the world they could go, while the sound of their engines took minutes and minutes to fade away, and their red beacon still very visible in me binoculars ( 20X80, Pearl, night vision : free add).
Taba, a few kilometers away was my first and only answer.

But the helicopters kept their true heading south, right in the middle of the gulf, between Egypt and Saudia, bound to nowhere : hundred and hundreds of Km with no refueling possible before Jibouti, 2500 Km away.
Twenty minutes later, two other helicopters, just as big and noisy...

Another five minutes and a fifth one closed the party.
By that time, a few thousand people in Aqaba, the next Jordanian city (50%+ Pals population) had heard and seen them just as well, providing they were not sleeping, same for Egypt or Saudia cities all along the 6 miles wide gulf.
And I wondered where they could go? What in hell can they hope to achieve ?
An attack on Egypt ? Impossible!
On Saudia ? The same.
