SMART ALECY LOUTS - AMERICAN LEGISLATIVE EXCHANGE COUNCIL

Hi MSI,

This morning, I listened to a segment on NPR's Weekend Edition that thoroughly caught my attention. While I find myself fairly jaded about how awful corporate influence is in writing our laws and ending democracy as we'd like to consider it (government by the people, etc.), the machinations of A.L.E.C., the American Legislative Exchange Council take our pathetic democracy down several rungs of the ladder. Here we have corporate interests like Wackenhut

writing the laws that throw prisoners into their profit-grasping maw. This is sick stuff. The Segment you want to listen to is "Prison Sales". This isn't even close to a democratic means of running public policy.

Here's the ALEC website:

Wanna join? It'll cost you..... several thousand dollars a year. Remember, the Supreme Court has ruled that Money is Free Speech and when ALEC gets done rewriting all the laws it wants to, Money will be the only speech. Disgusting bunch of self-serving greedsters. Using "cookie-cutter" law editing to spew their warped version of democracy throughout all 50 states.
