The chinese community here has been quite self-critical on chinese-only signs in Richmond, Ming Pao came out strongly against them, here's one article touching on that - goldsea.com

Never bothered me, i figure it's local colour and the sort of thing that will regulate itself, call it 'the invisible tongue' maybe -g- ... it's a shopkeeper's right to put any sign he likes, or no sign at all, it's his shop ... back to Solon's excellent joke - 'Chaim, he would teach us business ... '

Québec dictates french-only signs ... this is wrong, simply not the business of the state, punto

There are several Korean-only small stores in this area, one Indian-only, and a number of Chinese-only, including a large supermarket. That is the shopkeepers' choice. If he doesn't want me shopping there, so be it.

But when he insists that public school classes be taught in his language, that's my business. Interestingly, the Asians never seem to do this. Interesting contrast to the Hispanic politicos.
