Re: Raymond Barre quote... yeah, that was a good one. It's one of the benefits of free speech, it's impossible to prevent little things from slipping out like that sooner or later. Jo Goldenberg is still there, rue des Rosiers... I felt a little like I was back in NYC :-) On Tunesia... I know a guy from there (he speaks 4 languages fluently), and he tells me that that country is very unusual for an Arabic state, it is religiously very moderate, the people there are not hung up on that. It's probably a measure of the success of this way of doing things there that the country has not been in the news all the time with gruesome reports like this synagogue bombing. It's probably worth recalling that before the Soviets stuck their nose in things, Afghanistan was also religiously moderate and on a path of modernization. Balkanization in action, as one sees only the criminals and mafia ever benefit from such outside meddling.
