Piano I

Gymnasium

The teacher stiffly played a folk song on the upright piano in the gymnasium. The school hosted a diverse group of unemployed adults struggling to learn French at the governments expense. After class Ben, an older student, sat down and played, we all stayed to listen, even the teacher.

Piano II

Cafeteria

Six of us laboured at the construction site and were eating lunch at the Bay cafeteria. It was crowded with shoppers and Hugh got up and went over to the piano. We laughed as he cracked his knuckles but when he sat down and played beautifully, we applauded with everyone.
