>Which Israel has refused to do. It looks like the stalemate continues. What's worse, nobody seems to know what steps could be taken to get out of this:

Israel has not refused to withdraw its troops. It wants to do so and keeps stating it over and over and over and over. It just has told the U.S. that it needs to finish its current operation before it leaves, and the U.S. doesn't seem to object. At least Colin Powell seems quite satisfied with the progress- Israel has pulled out of many towns and villages already.

>And this assumes that the both sides want to get out of current situation. I have a feeling that Palestinians like what's going on, they think they are succeeding, so why change?

Exactly.

Joe, I know that it helps people on the Israeli side to think that but I find it hard to believe that any people like poverty, disease and living in squalor and chaos that much that they would look for ways to continue it. Just possibly, their motivation may be something different than that.
