I don't want to leave the impression that I don't see value in learning another language, only that for native English speakers at this point in history, there's so much to learn that a second language may not be all that important if it's at the expense of other subjects. If I had kids, I would have exposed them to another language, probably Spanish, pre school where it would be fun and easy to pick up and not take up class time that could be spent on something else.

I have some affection for the language and culture of Mexico and points south, but yet I don't see any obligation of the US or its citizens to the Spanish language. I don't think you will find many who do.
