PeopleSoft, for example, says it's looking for a niche company that can help it gain ground in the market for software that manages supply chains.

This is the issue I have with this article and the prior one that quotes Chuck Phillips. These guys are talking like the internet never happened and enterprise software is where it was in 1998 in terms of mkt potential.

We know that isn't true - just look at the Cisco eHub where every supplier is supposed to plan to Cisco's finished goods - its a huge undertaking and something that couldn't be done without the internet.

My belief is these extended enterprise opportunities are as big and as influential as any new unpenetrated space, hence I don't see i2 as a "niche player".

The manugistics EPO suite is another biggie that came about due to the internet. I also like warehousing and shop floor control using the 802.11 spectrum. Thats a new mkt with some potential based on internet technologies.

Things are very bad right now and not many large new projects are being funded but we will be back... maybe the economic incentive package with the capex benefits might start things off.
