I watched Peter Pan for the first time in memory yesterday. I actually saw it twice yesterday. I noticed something that made me think of the origin of Peter Pan. In the beginning of the movie, they show Peter playing the Pan Flute. There is a character in Greek mythology named "Pan" that plays the Pan Flute too....his name is "Pan", what a surprise. From Dictionary.com - "Pan" Greek Mythology. The god of woods, fields, and flocks, having a human torso and head with a goat's legs, horns, and ears. From memory, Pan was somewhat of a fertility figure. A similar figure from Greek mythology is a Satyr. dictionary.com often Satyr Greek Mythology. A woodland creature depicted as having the pointed ears, legs, and short horns of a goat and a fondness for unrestrained revelry. \Sa"tyr\ (?; 277), n. [L. satyrus, Gr. ?: cf. F. satyre.] 1. (Class. Myth.) A sylvan deity or demigod, represented as part man and part goat, and characterized by riotous merriment and lasciviousness. And then when you look at the jealousy them between Tinkerbell, Wendy and TigerLily, it becomes pretty obvious that Peter Pan ain't just for little kids. The chicks are hot for him. And Tinkerbell is quite the little bitch....and not just a little bit of a tart. Basically, it boils down to Peter Pan being based on a pagan demigod who liked to screw everything in sight. Christianity later adopted the goat theme seen with Pan and Satyr to also represent one of their supernatural beings....the Devil.
