Bush is fairly telegenic and it's one of the reason's he in. Being telegenic is also what got Reagan in. The majority of people disagreed with his policies but were charmed by him on TV. And hey, he was a movie star. Gore was a little less telegenic than Bush. That cost him. Leiberman was not telegenic. Almost made Cheney look good. Dole was very un-telegenic, so much so Kemp couldn't help him at all. Clinton was very telegenic. Bush Sr. was mediocre but was able to lick Dukakis only after Dukakis was made to look wimpier and therefore less telegenic with the tank ads. The most famous telegenic victory was Kennedy over Nixon. Nixon sweated. So did Gore. That cost them both.

We elect our leaders partly on image, poise and personality and everyone knows it. The good thing about Kerry and Edwards is they have such real substance beneath the attractive image, unlike say Dan Quayle. So I look for a mixture of telegenic power and even more powerful substance. Bush's problem is that he's rather telegenic but is lacking substance beneath the facade. The war against terrorists has helped him if he stays on that message but when terrorism becomes yesterday's news what else will he have to stand on? Can't get that Enron money anymore. He'll have to think of something else. Meanwhile, Kerry will have the real issues.
