Dan Quayle was Bush Sr's attempt to make up for his own squareness and lack of telegenic qualities. It backfired big-time. Qualye turned out to be a spoiled country club dodo. Should have been a golf pro. I'll always remember the surreal sight of Quayle walking through South-Central LA after the big riots. Talk about a deer in the headlights. Maybe Bush sent him there hoping he'd be killed.
