There isn't trading before the opening of the market. What people are referring to is watching the price that the stock will open at fluctuate before the markets do open. This changes as buy and sell orders are entered into the TSE trading system and the computer calculates what price the stock should open at based on the volume and prices of the buys and sells entered. The prices are often quite different than the previous days close early on, but usually tighten up to be very close to the previous days close before the markets open.
