A chart of a falling knife stock that has been in a downtrend for the last four months with resistance @$ 6.69 it's 20EMA. Globe says Nortel sees European wireless orders growing Wed 17 Apr 2002 The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, April 17, edition that Nortel Networks wireless unit head Pascal Debon says European phone companies are stepping up orders for cellular phone equipment. The Globe's Market Movers column reports that Nortel was chosen Tuesday to supply part of Britain's mmO2's European network based on the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System technology. Mr. Debon says momentum is "coming back in UMTS, you will see Nortel more and more taking market share." UMTS allows mobile-phone operators to sell services such as videoconferencing to handset users, boosting data revenue as prices for voice calls decline. European phone companies spent $110-billion (U.S.) for permits to build such networks, forcing them to cut spending on equipment. Nortel's experience in supplying gear using Code-Division Multiple Access technology is letting it gain ground on Ericsson and Nokia in the market for faster wireless networks, says Mr. Debon. Nokia and Ericsson currently dominate that market, says The Globe. According to Ericsson, Nortel has won about 10 per cent of contracts for faster mobile networks. Ericsson has 40 per cent of that market.
