Enjoy the time away Don. I am really not liking this market much at all. Hopefully it will find some strength soon but I grow ever more doubtful.

More from briefing.com: Salomon Smith Barney lowers its Q1 revenue estimate on Intel (INTC 28.39)....Lehman, BofA are cautious on semi capital equipment sector. Lehman believes shares may retrench if there is seasonal summer weakness or if end mkts for electronics continue to recover slowly.

Micron (MU 29.06) could be weak as Barron's details several problems which have hit Micron's stock recently

9:14AM Lehman cuts estimates for EMS co's again : Lehman now believes that the tech environment is even weaker than the firm's prior mid-Feb conservative forecast, and lowers CY02 ests again for CLS, FLEX, PMTR, PLXS, and SANM (all well below the Street consensus).

9:04AM TranSwitch downgraded at CIBC (TXCC) 2.48: CIBC downgrades to BUY from Strong Buy due to the belief that revenue at service provider-driven Comm IC co's will not return to the rate of end-user consumption until mid-2003 and that the long-term growth rate for communication ASSP providers is at most 15-20%. Cuts 2002 rev/EPS ests to $21.5 mln/($0.40) from $31.4 mln/($0.35) and 2003 rev est to $41.0 mln from $78.0 mln; cuts price target to $3.25 from $7.00.

8:52AM Teradyne bookings look stronger than expected-- Soundview (TER) 36.80: Hearing from sources that Soundview is saying that visits to a number of Asian subcontractors indicate that bookings for TER's advanced mixed-signal semi test equipment are coming in stronger than expected; believes co will report Q1 results that will either meet or exceed ests and expects mgmt to have a relatively bullish outlook for Q2 during its conference call.

8:48AM Conexant started at Strong Buy by SoundView (CNXT) 10.87: Hearing from sources that SoundView initiated coverage of CNXT with a STRONG BUY and $16 target; says channel checks suggest upside to the March qtr, and believes company is already 100% booked for June qtr against internal plan; says upcoming spin-off of wireless division (will be merged with AHAA) will be a catalyst.

8:14AM Intel Q1 revenue estimate cut at Solly (INTC) 28.39: Salomon Smith Barney now believes that INTC will report Q1revenues closer to consensus estimates of $6.75-$6.80 bln rather than firm's previous forecast of $6.9 bln, while EPS should be $0.14, in line with firm's and consensus ests. Believes orders began to weaken in Feb due to 1) unwinding of double booking from P4s, 2) order "stall" ahead of the April/May P4 price cuts, and 3) normal seasonal weakness. Stock mostly reflects Q2 seasonal weakness story, with probably only a couple of dollars downside and upside to $45 price target.

7:41AM Lehman, BofA cautious on semi capital equipment : Lehman says that while the group appears to have turned, most chip co's are not yet prepared to make the large capacity driven equipment purchases that typically characterize a recovery; believes shares may retrench if there is seasonal summer weakness or if end mkts for electronics continue to recover at its current slow pace. Banc of America believes that the recovery in end mkts will be modest and/or uneven, yet valuations of the larger semi-equipment stocks suggest that the "best of all possible worlds" is ahead; macro trends and mkts upstream in the IT food chain raise serious doubts that the industry is returning to the growth patterns of the 90s.

7:28AM Texas Instruments: cautious comments by Lehman (TXN) 31.80: Although Lehman expects slight EPS upside and a solid outlook from TXN, the firm remains cautious on the co given poor indications of final end demand for wireless; also, current multiple is rich, and while a muted short-term rally of 10%+ is likely given the most recent selloff, firm would look to trim positions on strength.

It's not looking good Don. Crossing my fingers we get good news from TXN and NVLS tonight. We will look forward to hearing from you later in the week as we keep the thread fires burning!
