It is going to be an either/or thing -- she said they'd either write zeros or give me a new hard drive.

The guy took me through a hard drive diagnostic test using my System Restoration Disk, the result of which was "No errors detected for this drive. Final code 0000."

I guess that means they think it's a software problem, and that it's why they think it would be okay to write zeros instead of replacing the hard drive....

But I wonder if that test can be trusted. Also, if I put the same software back, won't this problem recur?
