The reference was to the earlier discussion on righteous indignation. I realize that you don't read all the posts. My mention of "self-righteous" had nothing to do with your anecdote but a connection to something else.

Yes, I would assume that anyone using that word in ordinary conversation was religious.

Yeah, I'd say the use of the word "righteous" in that context had religious underpinnings. I think of it as being a nineteenth-century Protestant kind of use.
