Eric, yes it's a clever strategy to first sell you a license to use IPR e.g. to make 1X handsets and then make that agreement potentially worthless if you don't also buy BREW and thus chips from QCOM. And if you do, then what can the next feauture be that you soon have to pay for? No wonder Nokia and Ericsson tried so hard to develop WCDMA...
