Juniper Just Blew In From Stupid Town

Editor's Note: Jim Cramer's column runs exclusively on RealMoney.com; this is a special free look at his column. For a free trial subscription to RealMoney.com, click here. This article was published April 12 on RealMoney.

For a year, Juniper JNPR told people that it didn't see the slowdown that others saw. Then it switched its tune and said it saw the slowdown, but that it was unaffected. Then it switched its tune again and said it saw somewhat of a slowdown but that things were about to get better, and then it switched again and said that it was in the midst of a real slowdown but the better times were right around the corner.

Now it says it sees no turnaround. Now it tells us. Now it finally says what others were saying a year ago.

The pain.

Juniper to me has lost any credibility. This once-loved company should have bought a subscription to RealMoney . For two years now we have been talking about the darned slowdown, and have been relentless about how bad things are getting.

Throughout this, Juniper just kept saying that it had no idea what anyone was talking about.

I think if you own Juniper you have to recognize that forecasting is an integral part of running a business. These guys are the single worst forecasters in the telecom sector.

And just for that, just for that lack of insight, I would still sell the stock, even at 10 bucks.

Last night, one of the fish characters in SpongeBob SquarePants , which is all we watch at our house, says to Patrick Star, the starfish/moron friend of Sponge, after a particularly dumb move, "Hey man, did you just blow in from Stupid Town?"

To which I ask Juniper, "Hey man, did you just blow in from Stupid Town?"

Patrick has an excuse; he's a cartoon character. What's Juniper's?
