Re: Once the economy gets going again, we should start to see the benefit from the RIF.

Charles, The RIF caused Sun's breakeven revenue to fall from $3.6 billion to around $3.1 billion. Last week Sun cut its server prices by up to 40%. I don't think that the revenues are out there to provide a significant jump in earnings just yet, IMHO.

On the brighter side, the delivery times for several Sun servers jumped by 6 days during the last week. And finally, we are seeing the 1050 Cu chips which provided substantial performance gains over the Ultrasparc 900 Cu chips ( SPECint up 32% and SPECfp up 72% with just 17% increase in speed). These chips were expected around Feb 16, but we are just beginning to see them now.

Sun releases Solaris 9.0 on May 7, if I remember correctly. The new workstations are also constrained for the first time in weeks. So there is some demand improvement in the last one or two weeks.
