Don't you think the question of whether the 200 Palestinians actually need protection is apropos? If everybody is working on the assumption that they have no choice but to stay in the church, the Israelis will kill them all, then the churchmen might well choose to protect their lives. If, on the other hand, everybody knows that their lives are not in danger if they give up, then you must conclude either a) the churchmen are pro-Palestinian partisans who want to see the Hamas guys triumphant or escaped, not in jail, b) willing hostages for the church, or c) just plain hostages.

Those are your choices.

In a separate post you said that 95% of the West Bank was turned over to the Palestinians

Read it again, I said 95% of the Palestinians, the people, were turned over to the PA. That's the percent of the population in Area A.
