Well there was that Civil War thing. There were only 13 rebel states, and it did have a fairly broad economic impact.

There were only 13 states involved in the prior Revolution as well. That had a significant effect on the economy.

And there was this last election, wherein the electoral mischief of a single state, Florida, gave Bush the presidency, which wiped out our national account surplus by cutting taxes while effecting the largest budget spending increase since Lyndon Johnson during the Vietnam War.

Did you mean besides those things?
