Hitler's manipulation of German citizens seems potentially small scale compared to the capacity of 1 billion poor misguided angry muslims.

Bingo!! 400 million young hearts and minds looking for a strong guiding influence in their lives. The US and the West has only to decide it is willing to fight to be the ones who "shape" their minds. The advantage the West has is that we have technology and all the things that fascinate young people around the world...

Young people want some hope, but they are being led by cynical and corrupt leaders who want them to despair so they can turn their minds against the enemies of their leaders. Hitler needed a group of impressionable minds and he found them about 20 years after WWI, about the number of years required to raise a new flock of young "warriors" after the devastation of the first world war.

So if we get rid of the leaders and "re-educate" these kids, who haven't built up the baggage of history, there is hope for considerable progress in the Middle East. But extremism has to be defeated first.

But it may already be too late and the cultural damage and psychological brain-washing too significant..
