Nadine...Did you know that article was retracted immediately by the Saudi newspaper and an apology was issued.
Also, did you know the author was a university professor!!!!!

Yes, I knew it was by a university professor, I had read the article as soon as memri.org published it. No, it wasn't exactly retracted immediately. The memri translation bounced around the American media for a couple of weeks, gathering outrage, then the State Department officially noticed it and complained. The editor of the paper then apologized and made some lame excuse about being out of the country. Since the article was the second in a two-part series, the apology was not particularly creditable.

Just for comparison, about the same time a well known Saudi poet published a poem accusing the judges of Saudi Arabia of corruption. The poet is now in jail and his editor has been fired (Tom Friedman wrote a column on them).

The first editor and the professor still have their jobs and are doing nicely, thank you.

JohnM! High Priest of quality of discourse! Now I see how vital is your presence! But where, where are you when we [really] need you!

<<<...Did you know that article was retracted immediately by the Saudi newspaper and an apology was issued.

How are those two statements connected? Was it retracted because the author is a 'professor'? Or, is that hooligan's University appointment supposed to give credence to the blood libel?

I've had it. Nice dreams everyone.
