This is the Administration that needs to have moral clarity ; there are good guys and there are bad guys. Good guys have no bad qualities; bad guys have no good qualities. Ideology, image and illusion. Or as Ralph Reed put it. Tell them what they want to hear and do what you want. There is a centric majority: Do a photo op in a National Park and then approve the raping of the National Park; do a photo op in New York on a program to help the need, call it a great success and then cancel the program the next day. Don't like global warming...no problem. Say the world needs to do something fair [Who could argue with 'fair']. If you don't like a study...say it's not "sound science"--doesn't matter that it was from the National Academy of Sciences---pull in someone to bash the National Academy of Sciences...how hard is that? Tell the conservative base that you're opposed to farm subsidies [the base likes to hear that]; than have your staff lobby Congress for farm subsidies. You tell them what they want to hear at a fund raiser and the item on lobbying Congress in favor of farm subsidies is a page 9 story. No one notices. While the Naz was at 5000 they couldn't miss an opportunity to push investing Social Security funds in the market. That's what people wanted to hear. Now with the Naz at 1700+ it's pretty quiet on that proposal. It's not one the people want to hear. The right wing doesn't want the US involved in the ME, have Ari Fliescher say it wasn't Bush's idea, it was Powell's. If things go bad, Powell is sh!t. If things go well, have Fleischer say Bush showed leadership. Threaten to veto Congressional proposals; create the illusion of frugality and submit budgets to the tune or +15% increase over two years. Don't like the press reporting that Sharon ignores Bush's demand to withdraw without delay. No problem, have Armitage hit the Sunday talk/news shows to say that Sharon has withdrawn substantially . [No need to mention that Sharon says he hasn't...shhh...ruins the illusion] Don't like the word bumbling Pres image...no problem...rewrite what the President said.Last Tuesday was one for the presidential blooper reel. At a speech in Bridgeport, Conn., President Bush declared that he wanted each American to volunteer for "4,000 years," a variation of his usual call for "4,000 hours" that produced guffaws in the audience. Later, at a fundraiser, Bush bestowed a new name on Connecticut's lieutenant governor, Jodi Rell. "I appreciate Lieutenant Governor Judi Kell for being here," he said. "Great to see you again, Judi." Whatever, says Cathleen Hinsch, a spokeswoman for Rell. "You don't correct the president." But the White House does. Both goofs, and accompanying laughter, were stricken from the record -- deus ex machina -- in the official White House transcripts......... washingtonpost.com And there you have it, the official transcript reflects what an articulate person he is. jttmab
