OK, we're in agreement on what science is supposed to do:

I would say, if pressed for an off-the-cuff answer, that it is supposed to further our knowledge and understanding of the world around us and provide us with tools for manipulating that world.

Here's my question: If religion, in your opinion, does not make us better people, and science does not make us better people, what does?
