Kap, Re: "I don't like this at all. AMD slapped a 512KB L2 on T-bred and called it Barton. This appears to be a quick fix to fill the hole left by the real (SOI) Barton, now dead. I hope this is not an indications of deeper SOI-related problems that will affect the Hammer schedules as well."

You bring up a good point. The "original" Barton design seems to have been hosed, and in its place is an improved Thoroughbred with more cache. I had originally predicted that adding cache would be less of a headache than changing infrastructure to support a faster front side bus, so this is probably the best move for AMD. On the other hand, the disappearance of SOI is a bad sign. Maybe it's cost related, but then again, maybe there is more to it. For their sake, I hope they resolve their issues before Hammer is supposed to ship.
