I would have told Sharon that if his IDF forces were not COMPLETELY withdrawn from ALL occupied territories within 24 hours then I would move ahead to take steps to cut off financial support to Israel.

Hmm... that's right.. make the situation "better" by leading the Israelis to believe they have been abandoned by everyone.

Cut off the aid and the impact of such a threat disappears. The US threatened to cut off $10 Billion in loan guarantees in 1991, to no effect.

And I can guarantee you that any US president that takes such a course will likely be a one-termer (as Bush Sr. discovered)..

The Israelis have been pressured before, and have never bowed to such pressures. They just become even more dangerous towards those who they feel threaten them.

But it will be interesting to see what happens.
