Re: "voucher amounts are nowhere near what a family needs to pay for private schools of any quality."

>>> Admitted. But wouldn't any thoughtful voucher program encourage the competition for students in the public schools? Couldn't a student abandon an under-performing public school, and take his voucher to a better public school.

>>> Seems like if all the truly bad schools closed for lack of students, that alone would help the situation.

When those who CAN send their kids to private schools in large numbers and percentages, when teachers themselves choose private schools for their children, when Politicians do also.....we realize the trickiness of the issue.

They are sending their kids there for the opportunity to learn in an atmosphere that is not chaotic or threatening.

You didn't address the point. Vouchers don't support religion. Most religious schools in the cities are blessed with heavy minority enrollment. As far as whites fleeing look at suburbs near me in westchester county. Private schools can't compete and these schools are mostly white with a few asians mixed in.
