The case I was referring to was before the neighbor did anything (obliquely referring to the post- Krystallnacht period).

You know what made me change my opinion on the death penalty? The same people who run the IRS and DMV would get to make decisions about life and death of actual human beings. And then there is Texas where a single witness can get you convicted for a capital crime. That ought to shock every citizen to their senses. This is the same place where people were getting 10 years for a joint in the 1970's.

If you look at the overturn rate with new DNA evidence, or know anyone who has been railroaded by a DA in a felony case, then you know that innocent people DO get punished for crimes they didn't commit. Death is awfully hard to reverse.
