how is that? Dresden was a key city for supply and communication flow toward Eastern front so it was a military target. Laying waste to it saved a lot of Russian lives.

it also worth noticing that the civilian bombing technique was introduced by Luftwaffe in 1940 in their raids on London and other English cities. After that Luftwaffe laid waste to a number of Russian cities.

Before we put any judgement on those raids let us talk about civilian targets that Luftwaffe was practicing on. Many of those targets had no military value what-so-ever
