Russia only pretended to practice communism.....had there been real communism there would not have been a dictatorship in place. For an example, in communism, the workers are supposed to own the factories. They were told that they owned them in Russia but in practice, the profits went to the ruling leaders and the workers saw squat. And you think the workers in Cuba's government run factories get to keep much of anything? But Castro is a left wing dictator according to you. As for profits in the Soviet Union in many ways there was no profit. Things where bought and sold by plan (and that was before the plans broke down) not by supply and demand and price signals. Money was skimmed off by the leaders but no more so then in most other dictatorships. Tim

There were no such things as "profits" because everything was own by government and it was not market oriented - idiotic 5-year plans. re: the profits went to the ruling leaders and the workers saw squat. again you are so "shmart". Tell me, in your not so humble view, is there a basic fundamental problem with communist ideology or Lenin just royally screwed it up?

Ted, Not novel.......Russia only pretended to practice communism.....had there been real communism there would not have been a dictatorship in place. This is a very popular thesis among communinsts and socialists is that thier favorite regime is superior to all others, but it has not really been tried. They say that all of the failed attempts at communism or socialism failed because they were not the right, pure form. BTW, you may want to look up a term "dictatorship of the proletariat". BTW#2 What is your your ideal of communism or socialism? Joe
