We're at the point where the market needs an uptrend or the negativity will really start to feed on itself. If the market goes up, confidence increases (individual and corporate) and the economy recovers. If the market goes down, the opposite occurs in addition to all sorts of corporate issues related to debt, especially convertible debt. It's a vicious cycle that can get ugly, much uglier than it has already, IMO.

However, if the market can buck this ever downward spiral, the economy will be fine, jobs will be created, demand will increase and the standard of living that we enjoy in the US will be safe, and even improve. The forces that continue to press downward on the market are extremely unfortunate. One of them is the State AG's and their greed driven suit against MSFT. Others such as the options accounting proposal from McCain and the overly aggressive pursuit of Enron and Anderson are simply adding fuel to the fire.

This is the wrong time in the economic cycle for this type of action. A recession can turn into a depression quickly, especially if the Nadaq falls to 800 like the other Dave feels it will. It's a self fulfilling prophesy unless it's turned around fairly quickly. We're at the brink.

IMO,
Dave

VRTS (storage software) is getting slaughtered in AF trading. Down almost $7 from $37 at the close. It's dragging down all software companies at this time.

oh there is a surprise, the brd can tell what MSFT's stock price is doing minute by minute with out having to look just by how much vulgarity you use per post.....

stop embarrassing yourself ....

why don't you see this as a positive for msft? msft is starting to eat away at vrts storage management software stronghold.
